Northstar Explorer 438 & 435
The Explorer 438 and Explorer 435 are two compact, yet powerful, digital color sounders that offer unmatched screen detail.

Getting the best performance from your Northstar Fishfinder
Insufficient Gain
In the example, the bottom echo does not display enough information to judge the bottom hardness and the snags echo is so weak as to appear as part of the bottom sounding. There are no visible fish echoes.
Excessive Gain
This screen is cluttered with echoes from particles in the water column. The bottom display is blocked out showing no detail and the snag (an old tree) is displayed as part of the bottom.
Correct Gain
Using the correct gain setting the screen is still clean, however fish echoes are clearly displayed
